How to judge whether the worm gear of WPWA155-50-B reducer is aligned with the teeth

To determine whether the worm gear of the WPWA155-50-B reducer is aligned with the teeth (that is, whether the meshing state is normal), the following comprehensive inspection methods are required:

1. Appearance and contact mark inspection

  1. ‌Red red powder coloring method‌

  • ‌Normal status: The contact area should be located in the middle of the tooth surface (near the pitch circle), with an area ≥ 70% and even distribution.

  • ‌Abnormal performance‌: If the contact area is biased toward the tooth top or root, or distributed in a band/point pattern, it indicates axis coaxiality deviation or uneven tooth surface wear.

  • Apply red red powder on the tooth surface of the worm gear, and observe the contact spots after turning the worm manually:

  • ‌Tooth surface damage observation‌

  • Check the worm gear (copper alloy) tooth surface for scratches, glue (melted plaque) or pitting (pits), and the worm (steel) tooth surface for polish or dents.

2. Operating status monitoring

  1. ‌Noise and Vibration‌

  • During normal operation, there is a uniform 'rustling' sound. If there is a periodic 'clicking' sound or the vibration amplitude is >1.5mm/s (normal ≤0.8mm/s), it indicates abnormal meshing clearance or inaccurate tooth alignment.

  • ‌Temperature Rise and Efficiency‌

  • The oil temperature is >80°C or the transmission efficiency drops (for example, the output speed is lower than 90% of the rated value), which may be caused by increased friction on the tooth surface.

3. Precision measurement and adjustment

  1. ‌Meshing gap detection‌

  • Use a feeler gauge to measure the normal side clearance. The standard value is usually 0.1-0.3mm. If it exceeds 50% of the design value (such as >0.45mm), the center distance needs to be adjusted or parts replaced.

  • ‌Axis coaxiality correction‌

  • Use a dial indicator to detect the axis deflection of the worm and worm gear. The radial runout should be ≤0.05mm, otherwise the bearing seat position needs to be adjusted.

4. Professional equipment assistance

  • The gear measurement center scans the tooth profile deviation, or uses CALYPSO software to analyze the single tooth wear curve to quantitatively evaluate the meshing accuracy‌.
