The planetary reducer case body is the basic component for installing each transmission shaft. Since the planetary reducer will produce relatively large reaction force when transmitting torque on each shaft during operation, and act on the case, the case body is required to have sufficient rigidity to ensure the accuracy of the relative position of each transmission shaft. Only by adopting metal structure in the reducer box can greater strength and rigidity be obtained, and the structure of the equipment is more compact and the weight is lighter. The material of planetary reducer box can be divided into three types: gray cast iron (HT200, HT250), nodular cast iron and Q345.


Common materials for machining planetary gear box


1. Grey cast iron

Gray cast iron refers to cast iron with flaky graphite, and its fracture is dark gray when it breaks. The main components are iron, carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur and phosphorus. They are widely used cast iron, and their output accounts for more than 80% of the total output of cast iron.

Grey cast iron is a kind of cast iron. In cast iron, carbon exists in the form of flake graphite. The fracture is gray. It has good casting, cutting performance and wear resistance. Used for manufacturing frame, box, etc. Gray cast iron graphite is flaky, with small effective bearing area. The graphite tip is prone to stress concentration, so its strength, plasticity and toughness are lower than other cast iron. It has good damping performance, low notch sensitivity and high wear resistance.


2. Nodular cast iron

Ductile iron is a kind of high-strength cast iron material. Its comprehensive properties are similar to steel. It is also because of its excellent properties that it has been successfully applied to the casting of parts with complex stress and high requirements for strength, toughness and wear resistance.


Spheroidal graphite is obtained by spheroidizing and inoculation of nodular cast iron, which can effectively improve the mechanical properties of cast iron, especially the plasticity and toughness, and thus obtain higher strength than carbon steel.


3、Q345

Q345 belongs to the steel type and is a low alloy steel, widely used in bridges, vehicles, ships, buildings, pressure vessels, special equipment and other fields, where "Q" is the yield strength, and 345 means the yield strength of this steel is 345MPa.
