The main methods to check the side clearance of SCWS200-20-IF worm gear reducer include feeler gauge method, dial indicator method and lead pressure method, as follows:


  • Feeler gauge method : First clean the meshing tooth surface of the reducer to ensure that no oil, impurities, etc. will affect the measurement. Then use a feeler gauge directly inserted between the meshing teeth of the worm gear and worm to measure the tooth side clearance. When measuring, multiple measurements need to be made at different positions on the worm gear circumference (such as 120° equal positions), and the average value is taken as the backlash value. If it is difficult for the dial indicator to directly contact the worm gear tooth surface, a measuring rod can be installed on the worm gear shaft and the backlash can be measured indirectly by measuring the displacement of the measuring rod.


  • Lead pressing method : Choose a lead wire with a suitable diameter. Generally, the diameter of the lead wire should not exceed 3 times the top gap. Place the lead wire between the meshing teeth of the worm gear and the worm, and turn the worm to squeeze the lead wire. Then take out the extruded lead wire and use a micrometer to measure the thickness of the thinnest part of the lead wire. This thickness value is the tooth side clearance. The lead pressing method has higher measurement accuracy, but the operation is relatively cumbersome.

When checking the backlash, you need to first consult the manual to determine the reasonable backlash range based on the reducer model and usage scenario. At the same time, during the installation and inspection process, it is necessary to ensure that the reducer is installed securely and that the anchor bolts are not loose to avoid affecting the accuracy of the backlash measurement due to deformation of the fuselage.
