The efficiency of the WHC150-50-L worm reducer is mainly affected by key parameters such as transmission form, lubrication conditions, load conditions and manufacturing accuracy. Among them, the transmission characteristics dominated by sliding friction are the fundamental reason why its efficiency is lower than that of gear transmission.
Analysis of core influencing factors, as follows:
1. Transmission ratio and speed ratio design
A single-stage worm gear reducer can achieve a large transmission ratio (for example, the WHC series speed ratio can be selected from 8 to 50). However, the larger the transmission ratio, the smaller the worm lead angle and the higher the sliding speed, resulting in increased friction loss and decreased overall efficiency.
Generally, the transmission efficiency of WHC type reducer is in the range of 70%–90%. The efficiency is higher at low speed ratio and may be lower than 75% at high speed ratio.
2. Lubrication status and lubricating oil performance
Good lubrication can form an elastic hydrodynamic oil film and reduce direct contact between tooth surfaces. If the lubricating oil viscosity does not match or the oil quality deteriorates, friction losses will be significantly increased.
It is recommended to use synthetic gear oil with high extreme pressure performance (such as L-CKD320), which can effectively reduce temperature rise and energy consumption, especially under heavy load or high temperature environments.
When the oil temperature exceeds 80°C, mineral oil is prone to oxidation, while PAO synthetic oil is more stable and helps maintain efficient operation.
3. Worm material and surface treatment process
The WHC reducer worm is made of 20Cr steel, which has been treated with carbonitriding. The tooth surface hardness reaches above HRC60 and the surface finish is high, which is beneficial to reducing the friction coefficient.
The tooth surface roughness after precision grinding is lower, and the oil film is easier to establish during the sliding process, thereby improving transmission efficiency.
4. Structural form and meshing characteristics
WHC is a arc-contract worm, which adopts a convex-concave meshing structure with a large contact area and a large comprehensive curvature radius, which can reduce local stress, improve load-bearing capacity, and indirectly improve efficiency.
Compared with ordinary Archimedes worms, the arc tooth shape is more conducive to forming a liquid lubrication state and reducing energy loss.
5. Load and operating conditions
When the actual load is close to the rated torque, the efficiency tends to be stable; when the load is light, the efficiency is low due to the increase in the proportion of fixed friction loss.
Frequent starts and stops, large impact loads, or poor alignment will introduce additional friction heat and indirectly reduce the effective output efficiency.
6. Installation direction and heat dissipation capacity
Although WHC supports two-way operation, different installation forms (such as upper or lower worm) will affect the infiltration range of the oil pool, which will affect the lubrication uniformity and heat dissipation effect, and indirectly affect the efficiency performance.
