Check the appearance of the seal:
Wear situation: Carefully check the sealing surface, such as the seals at the shaft protrusion, the inner side of the bearing chamber, the box joint surface, etc., to see if there are obvious wear and scratches. If the wear is severe, the sealing performance will be greatly reduced and replacement needs to be considered.
Signs of aging: For seals made of rubber, plastic, etc., observe whether they have aging phenomena such as hardening, brittleness, cracks or weakening of elasticity. Once these situations occur, the seal may no longer be effectively sealed and should be replaced in time.
Deformation problem: Check whether the sealing surface has deformation conditions such as bends, twists, etc., and use tools such as a feeler gauge to detect the degree of deformation. If the deformation is obvious and the seal is not tight, the seal needs to be replaced.
Breakage: Check whether the seal has cracks, breaks, etc. Even if it is a slight damage, it may lead to oil leakage and other problems, affecting the normal operation of the reducer. If there is any damage, it needs to be replaced in time.
Check whether there is any oil leakage: This is the most intuitive manifestation of problems with the sealing system. Check the reducer's shell, bottom, shaft protrusion, bearing cover and other parts to see if there are any oil traces or oil droplets. If oil leakage is found, it is likely that the seal is not tightly sealed. Further checking of the status of the seal requires determination of whether it needs to be replaced.
Based on the health status judgment:
Abnormal oil temperature: If the oil temperature is too high when the reducer is working, in addition to checking the oil level, oil quality and other factors, it may also be a problem in the sealing system, which will lead to a leak of lubricating oil, affecting the heat dissipation and lubrication effect, and thus increase the oil temperature. If the oil temperature is still abnormal after other reasons are ruled out, consider whether the sealing system needs to be replaced.
Increased noise and vibration: Damage to the sealing system may lead to poor lubrication and cooling effects inside the reducer, which intensifies wear of gears, bearings and other components, resulting in abnormal noise and vibration. If the noise and vibration of the reducer are found to increase significantly, after troubleshooting other causes of failure, check whether the sealing system is normal.
Consider the use environment and time:
Harsh environment: If the reducer works in harsh environments such as high temperature, high humidity, and dust, the service life of the seal will be shortened, and the sealing system needs to be checked more frequently. Even if there are no obvious signs of damage, it is recommended to make preventive replacements after a certain period of time.
Too long service time: Even if the reducer's operating condition seems normal, the sealing performance may have declined due to long-term wear and aging when the reducer is in operation or exceeds its expected life. To ensure the normal operation of the reducer, you can also consider replacing the seal.
